Can you get veneers if you have bad teeth?

Veneers can instantly transform and restore your smile, giving you a confidence boost in all areas of your life.

Perfect for improving the aesthetic appeal of your smile by fixing small cosmetic issues such as discoloration, gaps in the teeth, as well as slight cracks and chips, all veneers are custom made to achieve a natural finish and fit your mouth.

Can you get veneers if you have bad teeth? We’ve created a helpful guide outlining everything that you need to know.

What are dental veneers?

If you are considering veneers, it is important that you understand exactly what they are in order to establish whether or not they are the best option for you.

A veneer is a thin moulding, custom made from composite or porcelain. This is then bonded to the front surface of a tooth to conceal damage, chips, wear, or discolouration. They can also be used to cover gaps in teeth if other types of treatment aren’t suitable.

Veneers are popular because they provide a natural finish and offer a long-lasting solution to many aesthetic dental concerns. They can be used to treat dental issues such as:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Chipped teeth
  • Stained teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Misshapen teeth

They should not, however, be used to treat:

Are veneers bad for your teeth?

There is a common misconception that veneers are bad for your teeth but, in reality, this is not the case.

Veneers are one of the most popular cosmetic dentistry procedures and they do not harm your teeth, providing that the procedure is carried out by a skilled dentistry professional.

Of course, as with any cosmetic dentistry treatment, your teeth must be healthy and free from tooth decay before the procedure can be completed. During the initial consultation process, all patients receive an x-ray to ensure that their teeth are suitable for this treatment.

Can you get veneers with crooked teeth?

Yes, veneers can be applied to teeth that are crooked or uneven, as they will be custom made to fit. Veneers are also suitable for use on patients with overbites or underbites.

Can you get veneers on decayed teeth?

No, veneers cannot be applied to decayed teeth. During your initial consultation for your veneers, your dentist will examine your teeth and carry out an x-ray to ensure there is no decay.

If you wish to proceed with veneers, any decayed teeth must be removed or treated first. Likewise, if you have gum disease, you will have to receive treatment to rectify this before the veneers can be applied.

Can you get veneers for ground down teeth?

If you grind your teeth, veneers are not a suitable treatment, and you must seek professional help to treat this condition before considering veneers.
