Aesthetic dentistry is where science and art combine in a comprehensive approach to the management of dental treatment. In other words it’s about individualised dental treatment, taking your dental problem and providing the optimum solution for your dental health and function whilst achieving a beautiful but natural appearance. The goal being to recreate what your teeth should be like if you did not have dental problems and your teeth & gums were in ideal condition. This is not the same as Cosmetic Dentistry (which strictly speaking predominantly involves elective treatments designed to change and enhance the appearance of your teeth).
So whether you need restorative treatment, crowns, bridges, dental implants, orthodontics, periodontal therapy etc…. the approach is to meet your treatment needs whilst at the same time re-capturing or enhancing the natural beauty of your smile.

Aesthetic Dentistry
An excellent example of aesthetic dental treatment – in this case the patient had unattractive poor quality old crown & bridgework. She was missing the two upper lateral incisors and the previous bridges look artificial and nothing like real teeth.
After dental treatment involving root treatments, dental implants, gum and bone rebuilding, and new porcelain crowns, and some porcelain veneers we were able to achieve a beautiful, natural-looking result that gave her the smile she’d always wanted – individual teeth that look and feel as natural as possible.

Aesthetic General Dentistry
An excellent example of how inter-disciplinary treatment can optimise the condition and aesthetics in a general dental treatment case. This 39-year old lady had gum recession and some poor quality old fillings, crowns and bridges that were now defective. She was unhappy with the appearance of her teeth, her smile and wanted an improvement in both the condition and appearance of her teeth and gums. She also experienced discomfort from the poor quality bridgework and sensitivity from her exposed roots where the gums had receded. Our examination found that with the exception of the gum recession and defective old dental work on her back teeth, her teeth were generally sound.
A terrific result was achieved by replacing her old fillings with new tooth-coloured fillings and replacing her old crowns with new high quality crowns. The defective bridge in the upper left jaw was replaced by individual crowns on the two supporting teeth and two dental implants for the missing teeth, whilst the gum and shrunken bone in that area were rebuilt to create a natural gum profile. This made the whole area far more comfortable and much easier to clean as she now has individual teeth that can be brushed and flossed normally. The gum recession was corrected by root coverage and tissue grafting, and lastly her teeth were brightened up with some tooth whitening. A really lovely result.
